3 homemade and sustainable gift ideas

If you’re looking for eco-friendly Christmas gift inspo, look no further! We’ve got several homemade gift ideas that are sure to please everyone on your list without breaking the bank ;) Feel free to add in your own thrifted or upcycled materials – the greener, the better.

Zero Waste Wreath

  • Local flora – pine branches
  • Recycled/Upcycled Floral wire
  • A straw hoop/wreath (available at DIY stores)

  • Dried oranges
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Cranberry branches
  • Little Christmas three balls
  • Small-medium pine cones

  1. Head out to your local park and cut some flora from the bushes, taking only what you need. You can also buy the flora from a local florist.
  2. Buy a straw wreath form a DIY store to use as the base.
  3. Bunch the pine branches into small pinchable bouquets and wrap with floral wire. You're going to want to cut the floral wire pre-bunching so you're ready.
  4. Move along the hoop adding small bunches of flora as you go, until it's good and done!
  5. Lastly, adorn your wreath with your preferred decorative items. Use the floral wire to fix each decorative item to wreath’s base.

DIY Christmas Card

  • Recycled wrapping paper (One-sided). You can also use the leftover scraps from gift-wrapping.
  • A4 Handmade paper
  • Eco-friendly craft glue

  2. Starting with the 12 cm x 12 cm, turn to the square so that the blank side is facing up, then fold it in half vertically.
  3. Fold the top and bottom corners of the square diagonally towards the center to form a triangle.
  4. Repeat the process until all 5 squares have been folded into triangles.
  5. Take the A4 sheet and fold it in half horizontally.
  6. Starting with the smallest triangle, begin pasting the triangles on the A4 paper straight down the center.
  7. Paste each triangle below the other, making sure to paste each triangle slightly inside the previous triangle.
  8. Cut a small star from leftover paper and paste it at the top of the smallest triangle.
