Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is about sharing love--not spending money. Romantic love is wonderful, but we're also talking about the kind you share with friends and family--and even to yourself. Love is in the little things you do. Here are some ideas for how to show love this Valentine's Day. We hope it inspires you to come up with some of your own!

  • YOU- When you’re taking care of others, it’s easy to forget to take care of yourself. This Valentine's Day, treat yourself to your breakfast (or any other meal) in bed (try our Walnut Banana Pancake Recipe), prepare a delectable dessert (try the recipe below!), soak in a hot bath, or indulge in a favorite treat. Write in your journal. Send a love letter to yourself. See? It feels good!
  • YOUR FAMILY- Spend time with the kids making something together. It matters less what it is. It could be Valentine's banners, cards, or posters. The point is that you spend some quiet time together. Teach your kids how to share love by volunteering together to help those in need. If it's a school day, write a little love note and stick it in their lunchbox. Show your parents, grandparents and older relatives--especially those who might be alone--some love, too. Give flowers, bake a cake or write them a note to tell them you love them.
  • THAT SPECIAL SOMEONE- Show him or her you appreciate them with a romantic little note, text or email. Take on a chore they usually do. Offer to give them a massage or run them a hot bath. Plan a surprise date for the evening. Or stay in and prepare a romantic dinner.

Any or all of the above will appreciate a homemade treat like this Valentine's Chocolate Cake. And it's so easy, you'll still have time left over for that hot bath!
You will need:

  • 120 g dark chocolate (approx. 55% cacao)
  • 35 g butter
  • 3 medium-sized eggs
  • 35 g sugar
  • 70 g chestnut spread
  • 35 g almond powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 30 g all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder (± 3 ml)

How to make it:

  1. Break the chocolate into small bits and divide the butter into 2-3 pieces. Put both in the MicroCook Pitcher 1L, cover and microwave for 1 minute at 600 watts.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients one by one while stirring well to create a consistent texture with no lumps. Use the KPT Silicone Spatula to remove any excess dough from around the inside of the Pitcher. Set the lid to the wide opening and microwave for 5 min. at 600 watts.
  3. Let it stand for 5 minutes. Then, flip it over onto a plate, and voila! You have a delicious chocolate cake made with lots of love and little time!
