World Environment Day 2020

This World Environment Day, we’re talking about caring for the environment amidst this unprecedented time, and how you can act responsibly during – and of course, after – the global pandemic. Our commitment to reducing the environmental impact on the planet is integral to our day-to-day activity, and as so, we’re dedicating this month to the environment in order to share some daily lifestyle changes you can make to ensure you’re living your best, most eco-conscious life.

“Never has it been more important to understand how the natural world works and how to help it.” -

David Attenborough, the world-renowned broadcaster and passionate natural historian has been vocal in his call to end waste in the battle against climate change, and how we must all come together to make a lasting difference. (1) These impactful words particularly resonate as we explore what World Environment Day strives to do for the planet.

About World Environment Day

Created by the United Nations, World Environment Day, or WED, is held on June 5 every year. Its aim: to raise awareness of environmental topics, while highlighting ways we can all contribute to reducing our impact on the environment. This year, WED is dedicated to celebrating the wonders of the Earth’s magnificent biodiversity and all that make our planet so unique.

Did you know?: “Biodiversity refers to the variety of living species on Earth, including plants, animals, bacteria, and fungi. While Earth’s biodiversity is so rich that many species have yet to be discovered, many species are being threatened with extinction due to human activities, putting the Earth’s biodiversity at risk.” (2)

Tupperware and the environment

At Tupperware, every day is World Environment Day. We’re committed to sustainability. And to eliminate waste throughout our manufacturing and distribution systems. At the same time, we want to help you reduce waste, too. #NoTimeToWaste

Part of this is planning for zero waste to landfill by 2025. One way we’re doing it is through our Eco+ Range. This collection is made from single-use plastics that would otherwise go to a landfill. And when our own products reach the end of their useful life, they can be returned to us. We recycle them into your favorite Recycline products made exclusively with the reused material.

Make every day Environment Day

Now you can make every day World Environment Day. Here’s how to live a #NoTimeToWaste lifestyle every day:

  • Ditch single-use plastic – Tupperware products are designed to last a lifetime, providing quality reusable alternatives to household single-use plastics, aluminum foil, brown paper bags, wax baking paper, and more.
  • Cut down on energy consumption at home - Use your Extra Chef, and Herb Chopper to help you easily stir, mix, chop, and blend without the need for electricity. Your Microwave Rice Maker can also reduce energy consumption and preparation time by cooking multiple components of a dish at the same time.
  • Minimize food waste with proper storage – Your Vent Smart containers use a ventilation system to extend the life of your product and prevent food waste.
  • Freeze food for later – If you know you won’t have enough time to finish produce before it expires, freeze it in your Freezer Mates. This will save some extra money and a trip to the store.
  • Shop responsibly – You can care for your environment through the way that you shop on a week-to-week basis too. Instead of popping to the store every other day to pick up bits and bobs, get organized and do one big shop for the whole week. This not only means you can eliminate unnecessary additional trips to public spaces at this time, it paves the way to reducing food waste, as you can efficiently plan your meals with a clear view of the next seven days ahead.
  • Go local – You can aid your local economy and contribute to a much-needed boost but being sure to shop local, and buy from the independent businesses in your area. Go green on your way there too - ditch the car or the bus and instead hop on your bike! Enjoy the chance to take in some fresh air during this period when it’s even more difficult to keep up sports and exercise.

You can also avoid buying any products that are made from animals on the endangered species list, such as Bluefin Tuna or Northsea cod. (3)

There are so many ways you can put Earth first, and Tupperware would love to be part of making those #NoTimeToWaste changes. Together, we can make a difference.
