Pap Balls

Instructions


  1. Combine the maize meal and salt with 500ml cold water in the base of the Microwave Rice Maker Large (3L), and mix.

  2. Add 1L boiling water to the mixture and stir.

  3. Place inner and outer cover of the Microwave Rice Maker base and press down securely.

  4. Place in the microwave and cook on high for 10 minutes (cooking times may vary).

  5. Remove from microwave and stir the mixture.

  6. Add the onions, red pepper and thyme.

  7. Add 250ml boiling water and stir. Place in the microwave on high for another 10 minutes (add less water for a stiffer texture).

  8. Remove from microwave and allow to stand for 5 minutes. 

  9. Stir in the mayonnaise and allow to cool for 10 minutes.

  10. Once the pap has cooled slightly, use a Tupperware Ice cream scoop to scoop some pap out, flatten on the palm of your hand using the back of the spoon.

  11. Place the cheese squares in the middle, roll up the pap to form a ball covering the cheese completely.

  12. Roll the pap balls, in the flour, then the egg mixture and then into the bread crumbs.

  13. Heat oil and fry the balls until golden.

  • 7 ml salt

  • 1.25 l boiling water
  • 2 spring onions
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 60 ml mayonnaise
  • 200 g cheddar cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 ml flour
  • 100 g bread crumbs
  • oil
